Wash Out

I got a not so early start to my day today. I was able to make it to Art in the Park by noon. Which was a good thing, since it started rainng the minute that we left the park at around 2PM. It rained non-stop for about 6 hours! The art show was fun and I did buy a bronze piece for my terrace. I'll post a picture once I put it up. It has these razor sharp leaves though. I didn't notice until I got home, but I had scratched my legs and my arms while carrying the stupid thing to the car. People are going to think that I am cutting myself! Little do they know that I am too much of a wuz to ever do that. Heck, when I was a kid, my friend wanted to be blood sisters. So she pricked her finger and when it was my turn, I chickened out!

Here is a picture of what I didn't buy! Honestly, I don't know what anyone would do with something like that. Not being mean, it's still great work on the part of the artist, but really...

I also bought something else. And this alone, makes for a successful outing...

And finally, reason 1,031 why I hate driving in Miami. Here is a quick view of my drive today.

Guess I won't get a sticker!

I went to vote yesterday. Figured I'd avoid the rush. They estimated that the wait was about 4 hours! Nope, it's not gonna happen. Tried again this morning, went down a bit. Just 3 hours. Came home and sent out my absentee request. Call me lazy, but do you realize how much I can get done in 4 hours???? Plus, I avoid all the drama that goes on in line while waiting. I just won't get a sticker!

We may not all have the same views, but thats ok, we're lucky to be able to choose which one we agree with personally. I may not share the same views with some friends and even family members, but it doesn't mean that I love them any less. Same goes for bloggyland. I don't rag on other people's blogs just because I do not agree with them, and I would expect the same courtesy.

Blogs Can Change Lives - PSPs for Hospitalized Kids

5 Minutes for Mom is partnering with PlayStation to bring PSP® (PlayStation Portable) systems to kids with life threatening or long term illnesses.

They are going to find TEN kids who are dealing with serious illness and periods of hospitalization and gift them each with a PSP Bundle.

I know that many do not like to hear about kids with life threatning illnesses. But the sadly, it is a reality in many young lives. I have mentioned Coleman several times on my blog. Coleman & his twin brother were 2 1/2 years old when he was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma.

I am nominating Coleman for this gift from Sony.

The following is directly from Coleman's Carepage and is written by his mommy:

Coleman had a tumor the size of a tangerine embedded in his cerebellum. It was removed 5 days after diagnosis. Surgery for a port was ahead and Soon saline, heprin, blood counts, transfusion, were all words our two year olds added to their vocab too. Coleman completed a year of chemo, with very little side effects. Exactly one year to the date of diagnosis we went in for our 12th chemo stay with a routine MRI. This was relapse day, and if we thought we had fear the year before, relapse makes that seem small. Two tumors were growing in the same spot as the other, with cancer cells also in the spinal fluid.
Chemo was stopped and we went straight to radiation. Coleman did 7 wks of radiation with no sedation. Caden was there every day to talk to him over the loud speaker during his treatments. They turned it into one big party and actually LOVED going each day.

The tumors responded but had not disappeared. The doctors recommended a stem cell transplant. A central line was placed and in Feb. of '08 Coleman's own cells were harvested and frozen. He received his transplant on St. Patricks Day and spent 28 days inpatient recovering.
There is STILL one spot the doctors are monitoring closely. *** Update as of 8/08 Coleman relapsed 4 months after stem cell transplant with 7 small tumors found in his spine and positive spinal fluid...after much research, the Larson's have traveled to Sloan Kettering in New York to persue further treatment for Coleman.

Caden has been the medicine no doctor could prescribe. The bond the two of them share along with our amazing family and friends, our community and faith in God has gotten us through a time we wondered how we could ever get through. Cancer has changed us, we appreciate the small things in life and cherish the friendships we've made. We live each day to the fullest and don't sweat the small things we once did. Coleman has taught us all that ATTITUDE and FAITH can make a big difference in how you choose to deal with cancer. HE has taught us the true meaning of determination. Cancer takes away so much, but it can't take away the amazing spirit Coleman has displayed each and every chapter of his journey.
Coleman says, "some day I won't need NO more meds or pokes, wight mommy? THEN I tan be NO-MAL!" Amen to that, but I don't think this kid will ever be described as NORMAL, he's way too special for that!

Sugar Overload

Hurray! Last night I attended my last class in the Wilton Cake Decorating Series. Although, I found them quite fun, I must admit that I was all "classed" out! I basically had to lug all my crap to the class along with a cake for the past four months. I like to work at my own pace and needless to say, I was the slowest in the class. There is just so much you can do in 2 hours with about a 15x12 area of workspace. I do admit that I learned quite a bit and am happy that I took the classes. I would also recommend them to anyone interested in cake decorating. I'm just content with practicing in my own home.

So here is my last cake. The cupcakes are for the kids in the childcare where Kari works.

Slacker

I have been slackin' on the blog. I have been so preoccupied with our trip that I forget to not only blog, but I forget to visit blogs.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day here in the MIA. We decided to take advantage of the weather and go waste some gas for a drive. We figured we would take a quick drive west and be back within an hour or two. EIGHT hours later, we finally got back home! We went all the way to Naples, got a bite to eat, then turned around and came back home. We stopped to visit some gators along the way as well.

<----Um, you dont have to tell me !

What kind of omen is this?

This house is less than a block away from me. Scared the beejeesuz out of me but didn't stop me from taking pictures! There were a bunch more towards the back of the house that you don't see in the picture. They were only on that house!

Are they no longer wise?

The girls got their wisdom teeth taken out yesterday. Everything went fine and they have very little swelling. I wish that I had taken my camera though. I normally would but the threw a wrench in my plans. They were given that twilight anesthesia. Not totally general since they brethe on their own. But it was hilarious to watch them when the surgery was over! They both would lift their arm up in the air, stare at it and let it drop. They would stick their tongue out and try to look at it. They would just babble incoerently and ask the same thing over & over. Kat asked the nurse for the teeth to put under her pillow about a dozen times. Remember, she is 19! It would have all made for a super funny video albeit a very expensive one.

Before they were taken in, I had to dish out close to $800 for the portion that was not covered by the insurance. They should have given me some anethesia for that!

The best laid plans...

According to my countdown, we will be in Vegas in 21 days. I just cancelled our tickets to Believe, the main reason why we were going in the first place. The reviews have been really bad and I just did not want to waste so much money on a show that is not quite ready. We had planned 2 days in Vegas, then we plannd on driving to Utah to visit Bryce Canyon & Zion National Parks. Well, there may be a change in plans there as well. According to weather.com, temps at Bryce are already averaging in the 30's and there is a Winter Storm Warning in effect. If you have been coming around here fore a while, you know that I don't do cold. I need to come up with a back-up plan.

I also need to start making holiday plans. Geez, this year has flown by! Seems like we just took down or tree! That also means that I will be another year older soon. I am not too thrilled about that.

Ok, I need to get my rear in gear. It's already 11AM and I'm still in bed. Happy Sunday all!

It's ok baby girl...

Remember this? Well, unfortunately today we had a similar incident. But this time it was our fault. Kari, scraped a car in the parking lot at work. She calls me in tears, while she waited for the owner of the car to come out. Yes. She did the right thing. She didn't run away and leave the other person stuck with damages that are not her fault. We tought her well. Yes, it's going to cost us. But you know what? Although we are not rich and it's not just a drop in the bucket, we are rich in other ways. Primarily in having kids that choose to do the right thing and stand up to their mistakes.

Now I hope that the other person does the right thing and not try to over inflate the estimate.

Oh joy!

Definiitely not the sound of silence. I thought that I would share what I am hearing when I step outside. Sounds waaaaay worse IRL.

Well, it rained today. Which means frog o-r-g-y. I'm in for more of this & this.

It's sad that I have to spell things out like I do in front of kids, just to keep the pervs off my blog!
